rita

Hi, my name is  Rita. I was very fortunate to have stumbled across Span study centre as a single parent with a young child. The nursery place provided me with the security of knowing he was being well looked after and the peace of mind to concentrate on obtaing my  teaching qualification. Span gave me the support i never had from my family who lived far away.

My son is now a strapping teenager, towering above me. As for myself, i found  work with Bristol Community Education, the Youth Education Service and Connexions. Later, i used the contacts i had made to form a social enterprise which provided bespoke arts training to schools and community groups. for five years we gained commissions and survived until the CONdems got into power. Currently, i teach part-time at City of Bristol College. The creative side of me would dearly love to return to making things for a living.

If you are interested in joining up forces to create your own opportunities AND have a skill you can contribute to a cooperative enterprise, then do get in touch with me.The core group needs to include people with the following skills: web design, e-commerce, business development, book-keeping, marketing, arts, design and making. Time to take action and make a living out of your skills.

Hi rita, thank you for sharing your story, I love hearing how SPAN has given people 'new' life! It certainly changed my life Smile

I hope that single parents in the Bristol area will get in touch, although I imagine due to modern technology eg Skype, people can come from anywhere in the UK??
