Hello emmamolly

I know we have had members who have gone through this, and in these hard economic times there are more job losses than normal. Will you get any redundancy pay? You will have to sign on for Job Seeker's Allowance at your local Job Centre Plus. You can register online to start with ( click here) and then they phone you up and ask you hundreds of questions (call takes about 45 minutes) and then they give you an appointment at your local Job Centre to make your claim.

For individual money advice, we have a superb Money Survival Kit section and you can contact an adviser in confidence. Click here to contact them.

Good luck with your job search in the meantime.

Hi emmamolly,

Sorry to see that you have to find a new job. I haven't worked for over 3 years now, so I don't have a lot of advice, but the fact you have the life expierience of raising your 8 year old daughter all these years, and you have worked hard in your job, i'm sure you will find something quickly. All I can say is speak to your local job centre now and they'll tell you everything you need to know about what you are entitled to help you incase you don't find work right away. Good luck! : )

Thank you Pheobe.

Its all just abit daunting as its the unknown but i know i can get thru it and sort it.. It reminds me of when my ex husband walked out on us i had to go into the unkown than and that all turned out ok..

I have been redundant for a year, both as partner, father and worker.

Do you own your property?

Do not fear, it will paralyse your thinking. As you say you have come through before. You will come through again. Another project for you to research.

Hello sadsy

Thank you for taking time to comment.

No i am in a council flat. I dont claim anything only Cb tax credits so its all really new and unkown to me..

I think i just need to research it all and figure out where to go from now while looking for another job.. the tricky thing for me is where to start but people on here have given me some good advice.
