I've recently moved in with my partner and therefore we have had to make a joint jsa claim. I was previously on income support but was advised to request to be put onto his claim of jsa. I have a 7month old beautiful little girl and the fear of anything going wrong money wise is really making me ill I hate the thought of not being able to provide for her :( I sent the form last thursday so we are waiting for the outcome does anyone know how long this takes to be added to someones claim? I'm also aware I will have to let the council know about him mooving in which I have an appointment for on tuesday buut is there anyway I don't have to have him as another tenant asin its all still in my name and my name only? Any advice oon both subjects will be much appreciated, thankyou xx

Hello loveheart19

Presumably you are still keeping the Child Benefit entitlement in your name? This means that you will be the main person entitled to anything o do with your daughter if anything happens.

I don't know what the rules are about joint tenancies, ask them on Tuesday, you can say that whilst he is oving in and you want to be totally upfrint about it you are a bit scared about the security of the roof over your head if things do not work out and ask if he can just be an additional tenant without it going into his name. We do have a Housing Expert but you will not be able to get a reply from them before your appointment tomorrow so see what happens first.

It should only be a few days to get you added to the JSA application but do not forget there has been a Bank Holiday. If one of you gets a job then you will be able to move onto Wokring Tax Credit in the future.

I posted a few days ago but still have a few more questiions after todays run around. I handed in a form last thursday afternoon to the jobcentre as I'm now being added to my partners jobseekers claim. I rang them today to chase this up and they said this still hadn't been received and was probably delayed due to the bank holiday, on the phone I was informed I wiull not be asked to sign on aswel as my partner due to having a 7month old baby and was told it isn't clast as a joint claim just being added to my partners claim and he will sign for both of us (is this true?) I'm worried I may have filled out the wrong form but the guy who gave it me at the jobcenter said it was the one I needed, I think it said on the front reassesing your jobseekers allowance? (Again is this correct?) My income support is now completely closed soo that wouldn't be effecting me being added to my partners I'm just afraid I've got something wrong? Any advice to my questions will be really appreciated as the people over the phone seem to just confuse the situation, thanks

Yes, loveheart19 it is a joint claim, he is claiming for you as a dependent.

We are limited in the help we can give you as you are not a single parent (sorry but that is what our funding is for) but if you feel unsure that you have been given the right forms etc then do get in touch with your local Citizen's Advice Bureau.
