Hi

I thought I would share this with you as my other posts seem to be doom and gloom lol.

I have redone my dining room this week for nothing!!!!!!!!!!

Ok my friends sister was moving out of one property into another and said I could have the laminate flooring if I helped clean up a little, not a problem at all!!!!!!!!!Smile

I was also given a lovely round dining table and 4 chairs a while ago but had nowhere to put them as I am a little, just a tad of a hoarder ha haSmile

Then I was really fortunate in asking for and being given a stunning and huge rug off freegle it is black and cream and on the back says handmade in India but says it is fairtrade!!!!!!!!!!Smile

I was then given 4 rolls of lovely Italian wallpaper 3 of one pattern and 1 of another both of which went with each other!!!!!!!!Smile

So this week I have de-cluttered completely, recycled lots of things I really didnt need at all, wallpaperd the room so I have a feature wall which is a small cream diamond pattern, the other 3 walls are a sort of gold ripply effect, laid the laminate floor, put the rug down, set up the table under the window and was given the most beautiful wall art pic you know the type 3 pics that all hang together but an inch apart and its in beiges, browns etc!!!!!!!!!!!!Smile

I wish I could put a pic on here for you, I am soooooooo pleased with it, it looks so nice and I am really really lucky to have been able to do it all for nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Smile

Rest of the house, here I come Smile

Hi sparklinglime

Yes to be honest I am, I am more proud that I parted with lots of things I didnt need, I am a nighmare when it comes to de-cluttering and have been known to do a really good job but then put it all back just in a different place, think there must have been some kind of mental block behind it really, it does seem to be passing now, dont feel traumatised at all so far, just loving my new dining room Smile

Wow, tired mum, that sounds absolutely wonderful- you have accomplished so much in a week and it just goes to show that these things can be done without much cost.I have found over the years that people are glad for stuff to go to a good home.

If you would like to put a photo on site, we have a section called our Family Quilt. You can click on it and submit a picture, they do take a few days to be posted up there though. If you have a look at it you will see my son, he is the one in the pic entitled Prom Boy! You will also recognise the names of other users on some of the stuff, it is not just pictures but also videos, writing and drawings.

Enjoy feeling proud of your new room- you deserve it after all your hard work! Smile

Hi Louise, alisoncam

                            Thank you!!!!!!!Smile

I will put a couple of pics on the family quilt later, had a look at the pics etc and Louise your son is a very handsome young man you must be so proud of himSmile

I love freegle and freecycle and would definitely encourage everyone to give it a go, on freegle where I am there is also a freegle cafe where you can ask for advice/tips etc which can also be really good. I really enjoy the challenge of doing up a room for as little as possible and my dining room has been the best so far.

I am having a day off today, well we say that dont we, I am still doing all the everyday stuff, lots of washing etc but its been a good day so far.

Hope you are all having a great day too Smile

Thanks for that, tired mum, I am proud of him MOST of the time....Wink

You could make a TV programme about you doing up rooms on a shoestring and instead of Sixty Minute makeover, it could be Sixty Pence makeover!

I have used freecycle often, but not freegle so will have a look at that.

Look forward to seeing your pics soon!

Hi Louise

I have tried the Family quilt but it keeps telling me there is a fatal error, not sure if its me or the allocation of memory to the quilt?

I would love to do a programme like that, it really doesnt have to cost much at all to do a room up and have it looking good, another top tip is to change your vases, window ornaments from one room to another, this can give an entirely new look and feel to a room and its cost you nothing.Smile

Oh I am sorry to hear about the quilt, I think there is a maximum size of file, and I seem to remember I had to make it quite a bit smaller than the "maximum" to get it accepted. If it keeps happening even when you have done this, let me know and I will ask the powers that be to look at it.

I always think that these home makeover shows are very ambitious and costly, although I saw one the other day Cowboy Builders, where a family had been messed about and their house was a wreck and so they were doing major work. For some reason they went into local furniture shops and persuaded the retailers to give them a houseful of furniture for free. WHAT?

Hi Louise

Thank you, I did try several different pics yest but I will try again later and see if I can get it to accept one or two, I will trim the pics back but one of them was quite a samll file which I would have expected it would take, I will let you know laterSmile

The makeover programmes may make good tv but they do little to show people what they can do to their homes, as you say shipping in a house full of new furniture is great I guess for the recipient but I would rather see how to make a home look great for next to nothing and it could be so easy do film that and so much more fun.Smile

Think I'll try the local furniture shops, and see if I can persuade them to give me stuff for free, hehe.

I can dream can't I? Cool

I have just tried the quilt again, it doesnt like me!!!!!! ha ha

The message I am getting is Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 16777216 bytes exhausted(tried to allocate 2197 bytes)in/home /10408/onespace2/interactive.onespace.org.uk on line 86.

I`m not sure but it does seem like the memory for the quilt could be full?

Hello tiredmum

I have been in touch with the main office and they did a "test post" to the Quilt and it worked ok so the quilt itself is not full. They suggested that your file was too big. I know when I posted mine, the file was not too big but it rejected it a couple of times, I had to make the file a GREAT deal smaller than the advertised maximum to get mine on

Hi Louise

             Thank you for that.

I have tried again but its not letting me, the problem is if I trim the image anymore there wont be an image leftSmile

I have made all of them as small as I possibly could but it still wont upload them, never mindSmile

Haha Bubblegum!

Tiredmum, it is not just trimming the image if you move file into another application (photo manager type programme), you can re-size the file without losing the image, sorry if you have already tried this and I am speaking out of turn, Bubblegum may have some suggestions?

Google Picasa, it's free and it has basic editing tools that cover everything your average home photographer could need, you can import your photos directly from your camera and then export them at what ever size you want, this all happens withing your my documents folder by default so they are easy to find. When I post stuff to the quilt that's what I use and I resize them to 640 across the top and they upload just fine : )

It's available for Windows Mac and Linux too : )

Hi

Hope everyone else is having a good day Smile

That was quick! I know the glossing can take ages though. I usually paint all my walls, have done wallpapering in the past but with rather limited success, to put it politely!

Pace yourself and do it in sections now, or you will be exhausted!

Hi Louise

My hall, stairs, landing has always been painted walls before, but having looked at the price of paint, it takes approx 15 litres to do all of it, thats just the emulsion, it has cost a huge amount less to paper it.

We have a great shop here that sells ends of lines so as long as you know how many rolls you need its great.

Wallpapering is something I absolutely love doing, and am very pleased with the hall etc having never attempted it before.

The nicest thing has been my 2 teen daughters and all of their friends saying it looks great, if they like it then it must be ok ha ha Smile

The glossing is so tedious, lots of doors and door frames and the stairs are the kind that go up and then a landing and then up again, lots of banister and rails to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am done for today though, will make a start on the undercoat tomorrowSmile

Hi everyone

Well the decorating is still ongoing, now undercoated all 10 doors and frames, all dado rails and skirting boards.

It is looking good so far, the glossing I think will have to wait particularly as we received a call yesterday to ask if we could take another delivery of school uniforms!!!!!!!

It arrived at 4pm today, well some of it did, my dining room, living room and hallway are now full and there is twice as much again to follow in the next few days!!!!!!!!!Smile

We have so far emptied around 50 boxes not that you would notice lol.

The good news is that there are lots of lovely warm fleece jackets, polo shirts and sweatshirts in the boxes, have been really busy tonight posting ads on freecycle and freegle, huge response and some are being collected tomorrow morning and for most of the day tomorrow.

The boxes have also been recycled, taken by 3 different people who were very happy as the boxes cost £2.50 each from storage places.

We are going to have a very busy day tomorrow and probably well into next week when the next 2 deliveries arrive.

Wish there was a way to get some out to you all, if there is a way that anyone can think of please let me know.Smile

Hi Louise, sparklinglime

Yes chaotic is a really good word to describe my house lol.

We have been busy since 8.45am and have just stopped for a break, we have had people coming and going all day to collect various things, the fleece jackets have gone down a storm.

We are expecting anther delivery on Mon closely followed by the 3rd one possibly Tues so its going to be hectic but it is so good to be able to do this, it keeps perfectly usable clothes out of landfill and it hepls keep people warmSmile
