I hate football with a passion, they cancel tv shows just so they can put it in!! Please tell the why would you want to watch a group of grown men running around a bit of grass kicking around leather for a wage of millions....it's even worse when grown men cry because their team loses! I hopthat here are woman on here that agree hahaha :D

Aw, Tinkerbell, it's only every other year. And in between you have the women's football (yay!) and the rugby........ and the cricket...

I LOVE the football!!!!

Well Hopeful I am really pleased that you are enjoying the footy BUT I totally agree with Tinkerbell2 on this one. And at the moment it is on EVERY NIGHT. I am not a soap watcher but imagine if, say, Corrie was on every night for three hours! Come to think of it, imagine going to the pub for a three hour Corrie-fest, with Corrie experts discusssing it halfway through: "I think David Platt is going to tackle Audrey on the business front...and what a superb own goal by Norris!" Surprised Tongue Out Cool

I don't know what you're on about: it's not on EVERY night. Tonight, for example, there is no football at all. And on Monday and Tuesday there is none either...

This is one of the reasons I love living alone - no footie on my tv!!! I have plenty of other programmes to watch when its on so doesnt bother me. My ex would watch every Villa game, every england game and most Man C & Man U games (just to support manchester) grrrr!

Although I will go down the pub or something to watch the very big england games - just for the atmosphere!

I agree LittleAngel....my ex worked in the footie industry and watched EVERY match, the highlights and the footie shows On Sunday mornings. Every talk with mates would be about "did you see that goal" "did you see that header last night" " do you think they will buy that player"     It never ended- I'm also so greatful to watch what I want, when I want :)

Putting the cat amongst the pigeons here but I always wonder if some people who are so "interested" in football (or any sport) are partly using it in order to have something to talk about to other people. I don't mean people who have this as an interest in balance with many other things in their lives but the obsessive ones. I do wonder about their emotional resources and sometimes listen to conversations on trains/buses:

a. did you have a good weekend?

b. yeah yeah, went out with my mates to see the game

a. I watched it on TV, brill, that Wayne Rooney is a top boy, mind you when Lampard had that disallowed goal I was like NOOOOO and did you see that linesman, what a jerk.

etc etc etc

So they have not really talked about their weekends at all!

Returning to the Corrie comparison

a. did you have a good weekend?

b. yeah yeah my friend came round and we watched Coronation Street

a. I watched it on TV, that Nick Tilsley is well-fit but then he had that row with Leanne  and I was like NOOOO and Norris, what a jerk.

I do not think this second conversation would ever happen.....Tongue Out

That's a very interesting point Louise and it actually makes a lot of sense! I guess if some one doesn't really have family, close friends or much going on in their life's then they can use such a subject as a distraction ...... This has light a lightbulb in my head about certain people in my life , how very true this could be with some people  and I guess taking in intreast in such a popular thing also gives them an excuse to talk to certain people who maybe they wouldnt normally talk to

Yes, I think so, and it seems to be men more than women, although women can often chat about their children.

A few years ago (12 in fact as it was the European championships) I was going out with this chap who was quite footy orientated.  I decided to try and play him at his own game, bought a copy of The Sun when it had "Our guide to Euro 2000" in it (YUK), read it and obviously it was quite basic...and then when it was a match I would say something like "Of course, the Spanish team have a much stronger defence since that disastrous penalty shoot out four years ago" (or whatever) and it really impressed him and his friends, thus confirming my suspicion that he actually knew very little about football anyway Wink
