Hi this may already be a topic somewhere so if it is sorry for posting again.  This year I'm planning to take L for a few days away but don't want it to be with family as it has been in the last couple of years. Has anyone got any advice on good places to go that are fairly affordable.  Thanks

Hi zippy

I used to take my boys to holiday camps like Pontins or Park Resorts/Haven, just because there was plenty for them to do, however bear in mind that if L goes off to the children's club that would leave you on your own. There are occasional weeks where a load of other single parents go too, see this article for details of organisations you could consider going with. The article also has info about individual venues you can stay at as well as a couple of holiday clubs for single parents.

You could go somewhere independently and stay in a twin room at a B and B, I have done this too, at the seaside for a few days.

Hi Zippy,

We went camping with some friends last year on that last week in July when it was baking ! That is very frequently affordable if you don't mind buying a small last season's tent and choosing your campsite carefully.

We had a few days in Norfolk and swam with the seals - that was really special ! Again, we had great weather. We managed to find a very small self catering and met up with some friends on a couple of those days.

Good luck with the holiday planning Smile

Your poll: I am not doing any of the things on your list! We shall be boating in Norfolk this year - which was No3 son's wish.

I have done the Sun Holidays before and have been given the option to extend from the few day's to a whole week by the caravan site really cheaply.

The kids like camping, so we do that too. If you don't own your own tent you could see if family or friends have one you could borrow that will help keep the costs down.

Hopeful, boating in Norfolk sounds excellent, how exciting! Will you be sleeping on the boat? Is it a canal barge?

I am glad that I found out who had said they weren't going on holiday as I wanted to tell them that there are lots of options out there.

Can everyone have a look at that list of Holiday recommendations and if you have used any of them, would you be interested in writing a review? I am currently in the process of seeing if we can secure some discounts!

I go on the sun holiday breaks every year and they're great value for money.

Trying to plan a holiday for me and the girls, I think we'll go to Cornwall but its so expensive in the school holidays.

Hi pq, I can't believe how expensive it is to holiday in the UK, sometimes it can be cheaper to go abroad! Will you stay in a chalet or camp?

zippy have you been to spain before?

Ive been looking at caravans. But its about £800 just for a week in August and that's just a basic one! Still got to find spending money and petrol money to get there and back. I think you're right Anna it probably would be cheaper to go all inclusive somewhere abroad.

pq, would you consider staying in a house, look at these assignments where you get to stay for free! Also someone told me that they managed to get a very good deal with breakfreeholidays - £800 is insane! Also have a look at this, there is a roma caravan. I love looking for holidays for other people, so feel free to ask for more suggestions!

zippy, you can get to spain so cheaply these days, especially if you book it as early as possible, may I suggest you look at airbnb.co.uk for really good prices for accommodation :)
