Hi all,
I'm looking for someone to turn as I am at the end of my road. I had to give up my job as my 13 year old is experiencing some severe anxiety/depression issues and I have to be here to help him go to school (this has been going on for almost four years) and I've been juggling it the best I can. I had to give up a recent temporary contract due to having to be here each morning.
I've been told today I can't apply for Job Seekers Allowance because I can't actively accept a job right now. I can't get income support unless I'm on disability living allowance, I can't get DLA unless my son is registered disabled, they refused my application. I can't get housing benefit because I'm not on any benefits. I phone the benefits line and they're just not interested unless I can tick any of their boxes, which I can't.
I'm afraid we're going to starve, or get kicked out of our house because I have literally no income, can anyone help? I don't know what to do.
Hello Jobiwan, sorry to hear that you are having such a tough time with your son.
I'm really not sure if there is anything that you would be able to apply for as you have found there is certain criteria that has to be met for each of the different benefits.
Are you able to work at all? as i would be suggesting to apply for Job Seekers Allowance, you would have to actively be job seeking and meet the requirements set out to you when you sign up for Job Seekers, but at least you would be getting some financial support.
Is your son involved with CAMHS or getting support with his Mental Health? you could ring Youngminds 0808 802 5544 They maybe able to suggest away forward that means your able to be around for your son and get financial support.
