Have a look at this, it is a plug where you can switch your appliances OFF standby (which can use up to 90% of the electricity a TV would use if on, for example) and therefore save money, and it is FREE. I haven't got one myself yet but will be looking into it, it is worth investigating. You need a promotion code, see below. Click here

Thank you Louise

I have just registered for my friend and I, did get a little confused as to what the promotion code was but on re reading it, if you have no code then you use the word gadget Smile

My free plug arrived this morning. In the box there was a leaflet offering a free electricity monitor to anyone on Income Support or Income related JSA or Housing benefit/Council tax benefit etc. So when the box comes, do not throw this away!

My friends have one of those.  I had the plug earlier in the year, and it didn't come with that offer.

I go around my friends house switching off lights!  They really aren't eco-friendly!!

I sent off for one yesterday. Thankyou Louise. I must have missed your first post about them. Don't really know if it will help me here, as I do turn lights off etc, and it's only a small flat, but still, it was free Smile

Hi Louise,

My friend and I both received ours today, thank you.

It seems you have to sync it with your remote control but looks good, I do turn things off but find the teens then switch them back on so this could be a great item to have,Smile

Not had mine yet, but then our postmen have given up and now stand around at the Town Hall and we have to go there and pick what ever up. I've not actually gone yet as I didn't realise that's why they were all standing around there : ) I just thought they were hanging about being social, it wasn't until my sister told me why : )

Not that I'm complaning as the weather has forced people to get out of their snowed and iced in cars and go into the village, the local shops are thriving, if not straning under the pressure but still, it's good, no bread mind.. and the best thing is that the the village is full, people walking everywhere, when we go down into town we see loads of pople, people I've never seen before, everyone saying hello, stopping and chatting, just like it should be, a vibrant village comunity, people laughing and chatting, kids playing in the snow.

I love it.

: )

Hi bubblegum

How lovely to hear a positive story for all of this cold weather, it must be so nice to see everyone out and about and saying hello to each other, your local shops must also be welcoming of this weather as it is rare that people use them these days, we all go to the supermarkets.

Hope the postman has your plug if you decide to go see himSmile

I'm generally positive.

My dad used to say something along the lines of.. why worry about it, if you can do something do it but stressing isn't going to change it, it's just going to get you down : )

Of course I have tied to adopt this philosophy at low times in my life and it hasn't worked, it's at moment like that I turn to wine... and then I'm reminded that my dad was a bit of an alcoholic and basically died from liver sclerosis.

so....

: )

Thanx :)

When it comes to the snow and the doom doom doom it's all falling apart what are we going to do....

I just have to look at the joy it brings to my kids to see that it's a good thing : )

That's a nice clip!

I agree that people are generally more friendly in times of upheaval such as has happened with the snow. At the beginning of the awful weather I bought a carton of longlife milk and the wherewithal to make my own bread and then thought OK no need to panic. We have good local shops here so I am lucky.

Would like to have one of those electicity monitors so I could be really sanctimonious and outline to son how much his Xbox is using, lol

My lot have had a brilliant time.

They'd cleared a path for the neighbours (and me!), and gritted it - although it's all white again today.

We may not have got away, but my lot have had a ball!  The were out sledging on body boards last night, but I had to haul them in at 11pm as they were getting too noisy!  It was still snowing at midnight, so the younger children on the estate can have a bit of fun today.

They've not built a snowman, which has surprised me.

It sounds brilliant meeting in the village.
