Hi,  sure, let's talk about it. The  Exposure documentary last night, if you didn't see it, was on ITV at 10.40 The media love the story, as it gives them a lot of very sensational headlines. An example is this article by Christopher Booker from the Telegraph on the 10th July:

In recent months, I have been reporting on what is one of the most alarming scandals in Britain today – the secretive system that allows social workers to remove children from loving families without any proper justification, and to send them for adoption or fostering with no apparent concern for their interests.

Well, we work quite a lot with Social Services and we read quite a lot here on the site about what they do well and not so well. I don't think we'll get many OneSpace.org.uk readers to just sing the praises of Social Services, but I am not sure that using language like the one in the quote is really helpful. Social services are sometimes misguided, normally overworked, and yes, we have read some shocking cases here on the site of truly appalling lack of common sense and sometimes training. But we have not really seen a deliberate policy of taking children away for the sake of it. The reason for removing the child might not always be well explained or justified, and I am sure it is not always the best thing to do, but it is normally prompted by genuine concerns that the well being of that child is at risk.

It seems to me that to discuss ways of improving the system is more useful than to tell people to run away, or to hide? In particular, how do we make Social Services spend more time with the parents and explain their decision, how do we make the process more transparent and how can we help parents in this situation with legal advice, support and planning?

Unless you are saying that Social Services have NO right to interfere with any family, ever?
