Hi my young daughter has Dairy, soya & egg allergy. I am weaning her but as you can imagin finding it hard to find suitable foods. I've found that soya is in so many supermarket foods. I try to cook & get meats from butchers (which works out very expensive) she is on special milk which cost nhs £26 per small tub,..I use dairy free marg but wondered if anyone knows of any baby foods which are suitable for these allergys? If any1 has any advice I would be so grateful. I stand reading all labels in the shops which adds about another 45mins onto my shopping time haha

Hi Tinkerbell2

I am glad to hear that you are at least getting milk on prescription! Did you ask your GP if there was anything else you could get (to help with the cost, I am thinking) ? Dairy and eggs are fairly common allergies but it must be extra hard to avoid soya as well. My instinct is to say that making your daughter's food yourself is the only sure way to make sure what is in it but you know that already. Obviously some of the pure baby foods such as the fruit purees seem possible but of course you have to check EVERY label, how exhausting.A quick look at the Internet has just showed me, however, that even an ingredient called "natural flavourings" can contain soy!!!

On a practical basis, I guess what I would be inclined to do is to make individual portions of food for your daughter and then freeze them down, hopefully of things you can eat a grown up portion of as well, such as little stews or shepherd's pie (this will get MUCH easier as she gets bigger..at the moment something like shepher's pie will be too lumpy of course) You can also encourage her to try various finger foods such as carrot, cucumber, banana or pear. I would get in touch with all the major babyfood manufacturers, outline your daughter's allergies and ask if they have any suitable products. You never know, you might even get some vouchers to try some things!

If you look on this page there are various recipe books that might interest you, I realise that you have enough expense in buying the food, let alone recipe books! but am just showing you that there ARE books out there and maybe for a future birthday prezzie?

Thank you Louise I will email food companies, I never even thought thanking that. I try cooking home meals for lunch & dinner but looking for a quick solution if I'm out & about as if we go restaurants or parties I have to bring along my own food for her, as you can imagin people will not always know what's in the food their supplying and don't even get me started on finding a suitable Easter egg for her lol. Going to email company's later and as you said maybe get a few vouchers of I'm lucky :)

Hi Tinkerbell2, have a look at Weaning your vegan baby, it gives a really good step by step guide.

Vegans do tend to eat soya, however this guide gives you some other ideas too.
