Good morning on this freezing Feb day!! Yes Sparkling, am with you on the coughing thing. It really does wear you down doesn't it? I'm sure my neighbour downstairs wishes I'd move hehe.

I really really don't want to go to work today. Not only for me, as I feel dreadful, but also for the children. Not fair that I could pass my coughs and sneezes onto them! Being stuck in a cold classroom isn't filling me with joy either I might add.

Hope you're all okay, and if you've also got cold and coughs, hope you feel better soon.

Good morning all

Hope all the patients are a bit better this morning smiley

Hazeleyes, at least only the morning to get through. The GP sounds fantastic and a diary is a GREAT idea. I had toi smile to when C said he was taking precautions. He reminds me so much of my eldest. Glad your neighbour is having him.....and she needs to understand that that's part of the deal for having all her errands done! angel

Sparkling how is your cough?

I had lunch in town with a friend yesterday then went to counselling. Luckily son went out with a couple of friends so I didn't have to cook at all last night. I have decided to have a massive declutter. Started with CDs yesterday, what a load of rubbish I have! Clothes next. I have dragooned son into doing his over halfterm as well then said he can have a chest of drawers from my room (am presuming I have emptied by then, haha!) then he has to keep his room spotless for four weeks and after that he can have the TV that is in the lounge (it's quite small and now I have started wearing glasses it's TOO small, lol) So hopefully that is a plan.

What is everyone up to today?

Sounds like a good plan, and I'm sure your youngest will jump at the chance to do his bedroom for four weeks, hehe.

School was awful, in the sense that I am feeling so rough. Shouldn't have gone, and was told by other TA to go home, but I soldiered on. Cannot see me going tomorrow though. Neighbour has made me cross. C has said that she, not the man, told him he is fine to go to school tomorrow, he doesn't and didn't have a temperature at the Doctors yesterday. How dare she? I actually feel like ringing her, and saying something, but I'm only stopping myself because of the age etc, still shouldn't be a reason I know. What is it with people? Aarrgghhh.

They were talking today about the drop in money. It'll be 3%, and the staff are understandably up in arms about it. Oh well!

Hi hazeleyes, eugh sorry to hear that you are feeling rotten, very admirable soldiering on, but tomorrow does sound like it should be a stay at home day.

How is C today, do you think he is better? I agree -  i would want to say something to the neighbours, but if they are elderly, they believe we should carry on come rain or shine, they were alive during the war don't you know!!

You feel like you want to say something, so therefore you probably should. Perhaps you could just ring to thank them again for having him and how appreciative you are to have their support when the doctor told you to keep him at home, but you needed to go to work and also how lucky you feel to have a relationship where you can help each other out. angel

It sounds as though the doctors went very well, the fact that C was able to talk about it, hopefully means that he won't be harbouring any secret thoughts or worries and keeping things out in the open, he can move forward with this.

Have you got him a special book/diary, so he can record any probs/issues he has faced during the day?

sparklinglime - get well soon smiley Lots of hot lime and ginger, blankets and waiting on I hope!

Louise - brilliant idea for a clearout, as I said in the first post of this thread February comes from Februa which means cleansing or purification and reflects the rituals that used to take place before Spring, so you are obviously at one with nature!!

If your son is getting the TV from the front room, does that mean you are getting a NEW BIGGER ONE??? cheeky yes cheeky

Last night I went to Tai Chi, god I love it!! Monday night dancing, Thurs night dancing, so tonight is at home being cosy, can't wait! smiley

Hazeleyes I bet you were fuming with the neighbour......grrrrr. Hope you get a restful evening.

Yes I do hope that I will get a TV I can see better. My friend was talking about an Internet compatible telly, I have no idea about any of that so will have to find out what's what.

I have no idea about that either Louise, let us know, when you know!

Am in my pjs now, cosying up on settee. Have rung the school, and told them not in tomorrow. Didn't bother mentioning C, he won't be there though. Even if he's okay, I cannot get him there, so....... I feel a bit bad letting them down, especially when I'll be off again in a few weeks for the operation, but it can't be helped can it?

Anna, that's a good idea about getting C a diary or something. Will sort something out for next week, or once I'm out and about anyway. You did make me laugh about 'they were alive during the war don't you know'. I just feel she was put out by having him, even though he didn't need anything doing for him. If there's a next time, I'll ask the other neighbour, she is 80, but wouldn't hesitate to have him. Brings it home to me, that there is absolutely no one really for me to call upon, which is quite upsetting to be honest. Onwards and upwards eh.

I'm not working tomorrow, so it will be another PJ day - well at least until it's scouts.  MiL phoned earlier and felt very sorry for me angel .

Took the sixteen year old to an open evening in the college yesterday.  Took him to see the art dept - where eldest was waiting for us. Two of the tutors are on the Saturday morning course he goes to, and practically hugged when they saw him.  So he'll be applying for engineering dept and the art dept, with option of sixth form if he does well in GCSEs.  Art is winning at the mo.

Everything hurts with the coughing.

I know what you mean about the neighbours hazeleyes.  Hard when they are getting on a bit in years.

Loads of hugs.

Here's hoping we all feel better tomorrow.

Hi all, no pj evening for me last night. I got home and my adorable daughter was blue, saying she was bored, she had been home since 3pm and done nothing.

So I thought instead of worrying myself about it, we would go out!

We went to Wagamama's and then to our local cinema and watched Young Adult - Charlize Thieron, quite enjoyable and good topics for conversation afterwards!! So it turned out a busy evening! But fun, although going out is soo expensive these days!

Gals you are at home today hazeleyes, I hope that being cosy is helping you to feel better? You mention that your neighbours are quite old, are there other people locally who are perhaps a bit younger who you could befriend?

sparklinglime - I love it when children have to talk about sex education!! hee hee! I am glad that he got over his initial embarrassment and managed to cope eventually! I hope that you were able to have some fun with it too, we don't need to be too serious I don't think!

Louise - Internet compatible TV means that you are able to connect it to the internet, so that you can watch i-player and 4OD (& other channels), visit Facebook and any other webpages you wish! There is probably more but those are the basics!

I hope everyone else is well smiley

Am really looking forward to sex education chats!!! It's great though that he did ask for your help Sparkling, in between the giggling of course. I didn't even know that they did homework on it!

Internet compatible TV, I'm guessing you'd have to buy a special plug, connection for it, or would it come with the tv? Sounds really good.

You're great Anna, taking your daughter out because she was feeling 'blue'. I'd have probably said something on the lines of 'tough' lol. Glad you both enjoyed the evening though, but like you say everything is sooo expensive. Hopefully next week, I'm taking C bowling. He's been once (last year for a birthday party), thoroughly enjoyed it, so I promised one day I would take him. Now I'm working, I can afford (at the moment) to do stuff like this.

Feeling totally rotten. Exactly the same as I did during Christmas period, and needed antibiotics. I rang the surgery first thing and have asked for GP to call me. Am hoping she can prescribe another ventolin, and if I'm extremely lucky, antibiotics without seeing me. I'm getting worried about the pre-assessment, and if chest isn't clear, they would postpone the op for obvious reasons, so I need to be better for that. C is saying his throat is still hurting, he is full of cold also, and his lips are bright red (sign of him being unwell). Unlike me though, he seems bouncy enough, as they do at a young age (oh to be young again).

Hope you get a nice relaxing day Sparkling, and try and keep in the warm.

How's everyone else? All looking forward to the weekend? Nothing planned here, but that's nothing new really. Not sure if Friday friend is coming round on Saturday, but right at this minute, I wouldn't want it anyway. Will wait and see.

Good luck wih the doctor, Hazeleyes.

The telly thing: you can buy Internet compatible tellies but then you need an adaptor, I had a look and they are £70 just for the adaptop! not at the moment, thank you.

I am going to see the scary new Daniel Ratcliffe film Woman in Black tomorrow, if my friend has managed to book tickets smiley

My GP rang me, and is doing a prescription for me, antibiotics. She knows I wouldn't have asked for them if I didn't need, but did say if no better by next week, to see her. Hopefully chest will be clear by the assessment date she said. Asked how C was, and told her that he's still saying about his throat, but in all honesty he's getting on my wick, because of the way I'm feeling, hehe. Thankfully, she laughed! So, have to order a cab to collect prescription, then once he's dropped it off to me, I'll have to go to chemist, which is just on corner.

Louise, love the idea of Valentine's party. Thinking of fella to bring wink Wondering if Michael Douglas is free perhaps

Ooh Michael Douglas! I am torn between bringing Sean Bean and inviting someone funny such as Jason Manford or Jimmy Carr.

Glad you will get some antibiotics. Shame about the cab but it can't be helped. At least you have half term to get really better. The bugs that are going round at the moment are seeming to drag on. My friend, who is married, has two children of eight and ten. Ever since Christmas, one of them has been coughing all night, or being sick or had ear ache or a bad throat or head. She is absolutely so fed up so I guess you are feeling the same about yours and C's symptoms.

Hi sparkling, how are you feeling?

What is everyone up to today? I have the cinema later, which is exciting smiley

I am sorry you're still feeling rotten hazeleyes.  Glad you're having some anti-Bs.  So good when your GP knows you.

I did go to Scouts yesterday, and sat in the corner.  Daughter was briliant and helped.  We did the flag down bit at the end, and she piped up that it was her last Horseshoe (it's the shape the scouts make to face the flag).  I just cried.

I love watching my children grow up.  They need to as I can't take them to the beach and build sandcastels anymore, so it is good.  Yet that did choke me up.

The good thing is she enjoyed it, and hopefully will help in the future.  She did proper Scouting before I took over, so has so much to bring.

I'm poorly though, so that was my excuse for crying!  I slept better, so hopefully on the mend now.  Colds were so easy to deal with when I was younger!

Cinema sounded good Anna.  And enjoy your trip to cinema to Louise

With the homework, I did treat it seriously.  When it comes to talking about sex, we do have a lot of laughter when discussing it - stuff on tele or on music videos.  So I decided not to lark about this time  angel

Off to park myself in the living room.  I am not going out at all today, to see if staying in the same temperature can help.

Flowers are lovely and much appreciated Sally W. Can't smell them through blocked nose though wink Your day tomorrow chilling (apart from dusting) sounds good, enjoy!

Louise, have a lovely time at cinema. Wrap up warm, and no munching when the film is on!

lrh, well done you, not just for clearing out his rubbish, but also for attracting attention (you hussy you, hehe). Hope it cheered you, and gave your confidence a boost. Great to hear you're making plans for yourself when he has the children. It will give you some 'you' time, even if you end up on the settee with a good DVD. I see you have your date for next week, still not decided on mine yet. The world is our oyster on that night smiley

Sparkling, is your daughter no longer going to scout after last night? I'm glad you're feeling a bit better, not sure if staying in the one warm place helps, hasn't done for me has it? I've had the heating on all day, every day this week, so am getting in a lather about the next bill, but I really had no choice, it's been freezing, and C was off school too, so that kind of decided it for me.

Woke up feeling a teensy bit better, and with that feeling, thought I could tackle some hoovering, but its taken it's toll, and feeling bad again, so just sitting for a while. Hopefully tomorrow, I'll be brighter still. Snow came down last night, and again quite heavy, so glad I didn't have to go out. Not sure if anymore is due, but fingers crossed for no more.

Hope everyone else is doing okay.

Hello everyone

Ooh the flowers look nice, Sally smiley Enjoy your weekend, glad you will get some relaxing in.

Sparkling it is soooo bitter-sweet as they grow up, isn't it? A combination of pride in them, and relief that you have done a decent job (and some of the hard work is over) and some sadness that they need us less, or at least in a different way. I had a few sad days recently when I did not hear from eldest, well he was texting but he did not actually phone for 12 days. I felt quite hurt but I knew he was really busy with his dissertation and also the shop he works at was moving to a different part of the city. Anyway he finally phoned on Wednesday and again on Thursday so that was a relief. I said I have been trying to keep out of your hair and he said I know, we have not spoken about it but there are some times when I just need to get my head down, I really appreciate it that you know and understand (I thought "Hmm, I won't tell you I have been worried, I will just say I understand". All part of parenting wink) Anyway I hope your day in the warm has helped your cough.,

Hazeleyes, your heating bill might not be as bad as you think as when you switch it on from cold it takes an awful lot of time to get the room warm to the thermostat temperature whereas if you have had it on all day then the flat will be warm in general.

LRH ooh Kevin Bridges good choice, he is so funny. I love the sound of the things you are doing, good for you, one of the very best things we can do for ourselves is plan nice things for the times our chiildren are with their other parent.I really fancy that Marigold Hotel film too

My Woman in Black film was scary and quite good but not WOW. I did not have any sweeties angel, just a nice coffee. I went with my friend and her daughter. When we got in, the row behind us was occupied by what looked like three of the cast of The Inbetweeners, and I thought "oh  no!" but they were as quiet as mice and really absorbed in the film so it just goes to show.

Good morning. lrh, the way I'm feeling right now, my tune would have to be 'staying alive' Bee Gees, hehe.

Another night of lack of sleep due to coughing. Bedside table looks like a pharmacy counter!!

C's homework was brought round yesterday, and also a science project, which the children did last year too. C's idea this year is for the solar system (help). I suggested making planets from paper mache, and from there I'm stuck, so any ideas greatly appreciated. I'll search on the net this morning, as he's eager to get started, and has a few weeks to prepare, but paper mache takes quite a while doesn't it? Perhaps some sort of mobile to hang them from? Am useless when it comes to these things, but C was going on last night about wanting to win at least a bronze medal. Last year we grew cress, different stages, with and without water. Cannot believe a year has gone already. I remember it like it was yesterday. Cress in airing cupboard, window sills hehe.

Anyhow, how is everyone else today? Looks pretty frosty and cold outside.

How lovely to hear from you and to know your news. I did sneak a look at your paper, saw the article with you and your friend highlighting the food bank, how fantastic that you are making such a difference.I  also saw the article about the family you helped, with the single dad. How are your own family? We are having an online party on here on Tuesday night (a non-Valentine's night haha) at 7.30 on the Just for Fun thread so that would be a good chance for you to drop in and say hello to a few old friends, if you are free smiley

Hello Hazeleyes

Hope you coped with your trip into the cold. Did you have a better night? I felt a bit bored last night, so watched one of those pay per view movies, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, it was good and passed the evening on, Son was in but tired after work so he just wanted some time on his own. I am going out with my friend tonight, we will go and get a pizza. But before that I have promised myself I will tackle The Worst Drawer In The World. I think we all have one in our homes, and mine is on the list for today!

Hi tiredmum. Glad everything is working out for you, even though you're busy, it's a tremendous achievement.

Hello to everyone else. I wonder if elle will pop in today. Hope all is okay with her and R.

No kickoffs this time either!!! They didn't stay late. Once they went, C and I played a bit of loud music (sorry neighbours). We were in bed by about 10.30, so it wasn't that bad really. Sorry you are feeling so dreadful, sparkling, we have really missed you but you must take care of yourself.

Hazeleyes, glad your chest is easing.

Had a nice meal last night (had pasta in the end) and returned to a bit of a "situation". Son has been with this new girlfriend for about 5 weeks now. It seems like his first "proper" relationship, in that everything else he has been involved with seems to fizzle out almost before it has begun. This is a girl he works with, she is 18 and he is 18 this year too. Anyway he wasn't in when I got home and had not left a note.I thought oh well he will be at a friend's house, if I have not heard by 9.30 I will phone him. Howver, he texted me before that, just saying "I am sleeping at X's house" (GIRLFRIEND surprise) I just did not know what to do. So I left it and said "OK". Maybe this is one of the times that I have to trust to all the things I have taught him, hmmmmm.

What is everyone doing? I have some errands to do then am on the next stage of the grand decluttering. I need to get this chest of drawers emptied so I can put it in son's room and it will assist him in HIS decluttering smiley

Good morning to everyone. Awww Sparkling, hope you'll start to feel better soon. Don't know what it is, but certainly does seem to be taking it's toll on me, but at Christmas, I also remember it taking forever for me to feel 100%. Just fed up with feeling like this, and also feeling sorry for myself too I think. Am trying to do little stuff around the flat, only washing etc, but even that is an effort, but has to be done.

Louise, I'm sure your son will fine. You've taught him well, and he sounds like a sensible lad. More decluttering for you then? Good luck.

There's been like a day-school that's been going on for three weeks with the OU, and this week is a bit intense.  And had a long day at work too - not good when feeling ropey!

Good morning all!

Great to see you, Hopeful. Wow yes, having done some work in the community I can well imagine the houses you may have to visit! You are doing so welll to keep pace with the demands of the course, glad you have some sun this morning,

Hi sparkling, sorry you could not make it to the party but Hazeleyes has your party bag and I have put a giant Caramac within yes Hope you are feeling a bit better today. As for the coughing, you could well have pulled all the muscles round your ribs but once I cracked a rib and it was less painful than I would have imagined, see what the nurse says.

Hazeleyes, how are you doing? Hope your chest feels better, and you can get some fresh air.

Son is at work today but got home very late so will be grumpy.....and it's mince for tea!. I had counselling yesterday (three clients) My eczema is bad at the moment (hands very sore) so I will have t try and get an appointment with the GP. Lovely to see the weather improving, I have some daffodils coming up in the garden smiley

I'm sorry you're hands are sore. Louise, not nice.

I shall really enjoy the Caramac smiley Thank you

Funny enough, laying on my side that hurts meant it didn't hurt when I coughed!  Now I'm up again, it's hurting - not horrendous though.

My garden needs a real tidy up.  And a jet wash!  A lot of slaps which are trying to look like grass.

Shall catch you all later.

Hope you're batter hazeleyes.  I don't mind you and C having a row of Caramac wink

How are you enjoying it Hopeful? I'm sure you meet such different characters.

Hi all, I do hope that everyone isn't too hungover after last nights shenanigans!!

My daughters party went suprisingly well, all the kids were respectful and well behaved, I was most impressed. Music off at midnight and they just drifted away with 6 sleeping over and I have just heard that there are 3 left and they are on a mission to restore the flat back to its original glory! Brilliant and I haven't had to do a thing!

I hope this Weds is lovely for all. I will be packing my bags for my imaginary trip to the Bahamas tomorrow, so will see you all on my return next Weds with a fantastic tan!! winkwink

Wait Anna........ You've forgotten me!!!!

Hello to everyone. Today I can actually say that I'm feeling better, still coughing, but chest isn't feeling so heavy. I took the buggy (C's old one) and did some shopping today. C, bless him carried it all up the stairs for me, and unpacked it. By the time we arrived home, I was feeling slightly breathless, but am okay again now (thank god).

Sparkling, sorry to hear you're in pain with the ribs, probably pulled a muscle or something, due to the coughing. Sooner you're checked the better.

Hope you're putting plenty of cream on Louise, sore hands really do get sore don't they? Leave all washing up to son, as you should stay out of water as much as possible. wink Is it possible for you to find out the correct amount for council tax before single parent discount etc? I have tried, but me being me I can't frown It's a band C, and I think you can get my postcode from my profile can't you? There's no hurry (chop chop). It's just I'm paying £3 less than someone around the corner, and she's not entitled to any benefit, so it's not making sense to me.

Hopeful, glad things are all going well for you and your job. How are the children doing?

lrh, Bella, hope you've recovered from last night. It was fun wasn't it, thankyou Louise and Anna.

Have a nice holiday Anna.

I would really like to swap with Anna! I feel like I have no time for me at all at the moment. And the children leave all the chaos because they know my defences are down - I just haven't got the energy to nag and argue at the moment.

District nursing is interesting, but the paperwork they have to do is just horrendous! I love meeting all the patients though, there are some right characters. One lady told me today I had a dog's name (she is actually sort of right, but still, would you say that to someone??) - she made me laugh because she is really quite something.

Glad to see most of you are ok. Hazeleyes, I hope this cough is on its way out for good now!

Hugs to all! x

Hi Hopeful,. yes a week's holiday in The Bahamas would set you up  nicely. I know what you mean about District Nursing, I know someone who does that job and she loves the patients but says she does not like the time in the office keeping her records. On top of which you have your studying!

How is everyone this morning? Hope the poorly people are improving. I am out and about for most of the day and so will be back in later. Had a long chat with son about The Girlfriend. He has met her dad but not her mum who works night shifts. Their meal: she had a cheese and tomato pizza and he had half the menu by the sounds of things. I am sure he will be broke now for the rest of February.

Anyway will talk to you all later when I have got back from my meetings smiley
