Hi tracey 40, thanks for your enquiry. I know of many parents are feeling anxious about the Work Programmes.

Have a look at the pdf on this article that may answer some of your questions

I am going to ask our Parliamentary officer to respond to your post as she is the guru on these things.

Please be patient and she will get back to you.

Tracey 40,

The Jobseeking Regime is certainly getting very tough.  I agree with Anna you should look at our guidance on your rights whilst on JSA.  It is not clear from your post which job scheme they have put you on.  Is is 'help to work'?  How long have you been on JSA? It is important that any agreement that you are asked to sign at the Jobcentre reflects the needs of your child.  Asking a ten year old to go to a childminder for the whole of their summer break seems harsh.  What is on your Claimant Commitment in terms of hours that you should be job seeking?  With a ten year old child you should be able to limit your hours.  Any Agreement should also reflect the well-being of your child.

Tracey 40,

Yes, the benefits regime is getting very tough.  I would try and negotiate with the Jobcentre about the school summer holidays so that you can have time with your child.

I have tried they won`t listen the advisor on placement speaks to me like dirt ,example I wasn`t asked to bring any imformation to the placement interview basically she called me a liar and said everyone had been told at the jobcentre to tell claiments to bring certain imformation when I explained none of this was in the letter I had recieved that morning she snatched it out of my hand and proceeded to read my private mail. About 20 minutes she asked who my jcp adviser was when I told her she said oh I have a face to face meeting with him tomorrow she hadn`t even met him yet.kind of made me afraid to ask her anything my cousin at the weekend died of cancer the funeral is next week because my son has been ill i haven`t started placement yet but i won`t be missing no funeral im doomed before i start

Hi tracey 40, many people are facing these sort of issues with their advisors. When you speak again, you can say you have been advised by a single parent organisation (SPAN - Single Parent Action Network) that you should be able to limit your hours over the summer holidays for the well being of your child.

Keep us updated on how things go.
