Hi, just thought I would let everyone know, if your child turns 16 between April 5th and August 31st then your child tax credits are stopped automatically on 31st August as my friend found out this week when her money wasnt right.

This happens regardless of informing them that your child is staying on education.

If this happens to you, call them straight away and tell them again that your child is staying in education, they will give you the talk of oh yes but its the system and it will be updated as and when!!!!!!! They think my friend might be paid on Thursday, she is having a really bad week.

Just thought this might help others xxx

Thanks for the headsup tiredmum. Your poor friend, it is such a shock when the money is not there and we expect it to be. I hope she will feel better on Thursday.

Hi Tiredmum

Yes i fall into this category next year, thank you for this useful information. My daughter will be 16 in May 2012, I doubt they will have changed the system by then!

Why ask us to inform of any changes in circumstances and not act on it or prevent it been stopped when it shouldn't. Not at all fair when you are reliant on your money going in and can mess up your whole finances with dds set up.

That's awful.....and although I remember it happening with my eldest, it did not happen with my youngest, seems rather random.
