Hello Lilybear, may I ask who told u you didn't need to mention the money? When my daughter was born I was told I had to tell them ALL money I recieved and inform them ASAP of there were any changes. Have you tried contacting the CSA/housing benefit to explain to them?

They do need to know all your income, even if its something they'll disregard.

You could just tell them that you have "just" arranged a private agreement with the Father and tell them the amount.

I don't think you have to go through the CSA anymore if you're claiming benefits...

Hi Lilybear, I had to mention it on my claim form, unless you have done a claim for Income support, Housing benefit does not really get affected by it. plus the only part of the benefits system that i understand that has any dealings with CSA is imcome support, because of the new measurements in place. when i first claimed income support they asked if i had made a claim for CSA and i said no, next thing i knew where CSA on my case about doing a claim, speak to them and inform them that you have a private agreement in place but because youare on the benefit system they do need youre ex's details, not to sure why, but all of it is interlinked smewhere along the line

Hi lilybear, some great information for you here. You are not forecd to go through the CSA if you have a private agreement but you must mention the amount in any benefit applications UNLESS it says on that form "do not include child maintenance"

hi all, i know this isnt the same questionn, but does anyone know if the csa are right in saying my ex no longer needs to pay for my kids (11 & 16) because he has 2 with his new partner?  the csa have even confirmed this in writing !! his assessment is Nil Rate ?

Hello themousey27

That's pretty unusual. An allowance is usually made for dependent children in the household where the person lives before the calculation is made....so it does reduce the amount of support. There are also special circumstances such as when the parent is a student.

We have our own CSA Expert. Click on the blue link to send her an email and she will get to the bottom of it for you!

yes of course anna, if i can prevent anyone else going through the same i will give any advise of info i can.. i just cant believ the csa would put in writing that if an ex partner has new children they are no longer financially responsible for the older children? he's self employed, this is were the assessment has broken down, he's told me time and time again he will get his accountant to lie so i dont get anything. he's a director of the company too, designer clothes etc... csa basically said can i prove he has more income? what like break into his house and steal papers etc? think i migt get done for burglery then ! today im laughing but other days i just get to breaking point.. i nealry lost my ome last year though all the csa messing up etc..  hopefully jean can help :-)
