Poppy10

Hi all,

As I've been down and struggling for what feels like ages now I thought I'd share a recent positive experience!!.

I took my near 7 yr old daughter to visit a new area we are thinking about moving to. As it is a lengthy distance from where we live now I needed to book somewhere to stay over-night.

I went onto lastminute.com and couldn't believe I found a hotel for £29 for the two of us on a Friday night. This included a well-furnished room, use of a lovely swimming pool and a stomach groaning breakfast with complimentary newspaper (for mum/dad!) thrown in.

My daughter thought it was the most exciting thing ever!. On arrival, after scooting round the grounds, jumped for joy on the bed, had a lengthy swim with mum that evening and the next morning after filling her boots with as much food as possible and loving the fact she could drink as much of the 4 different fruit juices on offer (4!-she'd never have that much choice at home!).

I suppose it's not rocket science but sometimes we need a shove in the right direction.

For less than £30 we spent 24hrs in a new environment, managing to fit in a visit to the local park/free places of interest all topped off with a bit of luxury at the hotel.

From now on I've made a pact to save a little bit of money so whenever I'm getting into a rut or just a couple of times of year as a treat I'm going to find a cheap hotel deal in a place we've never been before and experience a Friday night that doesn't include, sofas, TV and feeling depressed!!.

Great post Poppy 10 and you're right, treats don't have to cost the earth.

Once, when my boys were with their dad, I booked B and B in a country inn just for me, very cheaply, less than an hour's drive away and sneaked off for a lovely retreat, I visited a lavender farm and had a lovely walk and read and chilled out.

Any ideas for your next treat?

I'm not sure yet Louise, but, I counted up all my saved 'coppers' last night which amounted to the grand total of £9, so £20 to go and then looking forward to the next adventure-ha! :)

Yes, I felt really naughty just running away! That's good that you have something saved already. Now my boys are grown up, my treats tend to be things like pampering, I have an Indian Head Massage this week Smile

That does sound lovely.

When I first split up - which is now over 9 years ago, the travelodge used to do £10 a night offers, so I used to take my lot to them.  Not too far, but a good time exploring and visiting museums Smile
