Thank you.

I told daughter what you'd done (she woke me up to say she needed to use the computer), and it sorted it.  I was getting a headache standing on my head to see the monitor, so am so relieved!

Thanks again

Good to learn about this site and the help that it brought to other individual especially the single parents. I've read a lot of the articles and even in the forums and I guess I was lucky enough to understand and have pre-knowledge about being a single parent. I hope, I am prepared enough if this so happens to me and I hope to prepared enough to face the consequences and responsibilities of being a single parent. I am very proud to learn about your experiences guys and thanks for sharing this.

I knew someone had started a 'Bubblegum' topic, hehe.

I need some help please Bubblegum. I have a spare desktop pc, but the hard drive has had it. I have been looking through Argos, but don't have a clue what it is I need. None of them look like the hard drive that I have (which is about 8 years old now). Basically, it's for my son, can't afford a laptop for him, so thought the other option would be just a hard drive, as already have a monitor.

I know you're the man to ask. Ebay is out of the question, as I have no idea even how to bid, or whatever else you have to do, hehe. Argos are fairly priced I think???

Thankyou. Smile

There are IDE hard drives and SATA, if it's old it's probably an IDE one..

A picture showing the difference.

A guide showing how to install it in your PC.

But you will need a copy of windows. XP would probably do the job for an 8 year old PC, usually there is a key on a sticker stuck to the PC if it was from a shop, you'll still need a copy of the disk, maybe one came with one of your other PC's or failing that XP is readily available online... if you know what I mean ;)

How to install XP.

This is something that I need      here    I took a look at the pics you gave, but don't think that is it. The pic I've given is something similar to what I have for my pc. Gosh I can't believe the prices, just for this?

There is a good value site that I use for things to do with computers etc, called ebuyer. It is not a bid site, just does things for lower prices.

I've used ebuyer with no problems..

alisoncam! that link is for a 'tower' a complete system, basically a desktop PC with everything in it. A hard drive is a component inside a PC that stores all your files and programs on it along with the operating system that enables you to use all of them, they do often fail but you would have some sort of vague error message when you turned it on like "HARD DISK BOOT FAILURE INSERT SYSTEM DISK PRESS ENTER" or something.

Now I'm confused as to what exactly your problem is. As a side note my sister often refers to the 'tower' as the hard drive, usually in conjunction with the decor of a room and why does it need all those leads?.

My only suggestion would be that you go to a pub scantily dressed, remembering to wear a warm coat between your house and the pub and ask some random geeky looking chap if he knows anything about computers.

Laughing

Alternatively you may ask me some more questions : )

Think I'll go for the alternative Bubblegum Wink

It is the tower that I'm looking for, (I'm such a doughnut)

Will get back to you, as tonight I'm not feeling that great, and am shortly going to bed.

How is your daughter? Did you and son get it? Hope not.

We are OK, my daughter didn't go to school today though as strangely after her miraculous recovery yesterday she was this morning struck by some strange ailment that she claimed meant she couldn't go to school, it was so bad in fact that she declined our normal morning treat of sharing a packet of peanut M&M's on the way to school, so I took her home, not before getting her some life saving medisinal Petits Filous though. She said she needed them.

It's amazing that Pitits Filous isn't more widely used...

Perhaps some people are allergic to it, like penicillin? Tongue out
