If you are a single mother of a child from a mixed racial or ethnic background living in Bristol, would you be interested in participating in a project that is being undertaken by London South Bank University and Single Parent Action Network?

As a result of a successful pilot project - http://www.onespace.org.uk/your-roots/lone-mothers-mixed-race-children - we are undertaking further research into the experiences of single mothers living in Bristol who have mixed racial or ethnic children. Our aim is to challenge many popular ideas and stereotypes about this group of mothers by collecting firsthand accounts of mothers' experiences, rather than assuming what these are.

We are looking to speak to mothers who live in three neighbourhoods in Bristol - Clifton/Cotham, Easton/St Pauls and Hartcliffe - and who have children aged 7-18. The research is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council and on completion of the project a report collating the mothers experiences will be published by SPAN along with a seminar in Bristol presenting the findings.

The interviews discuss various aspects of parenting and everyday life (e.g. mothers' experiences of raising their children, life in the neighbourhood, children's educational experiences, support or challenges experienced, etc.) and last about an hour, taking place at mothers' homes or at SPAN, if preferred. The interviews are confidential and any material used in reports or presentations is anonymised. We offer a £10 High Street Gift Voucher to any mothers who take part.

We have a website with more details about the project - http://www.lsbu.ac.uk/families/insidersandoutsiders/index.shtml - but please do feel free to contact me directly if you have any queries or are interested in taking part. In the meantime, thanks for reading this far!

Many thanks,
