Ok here we go. I am throwing 2 birthday parties 3 weeks apart. My grandson will be 1 and my son 16.

I Neeeeeeed some ideas of how to do this cheap and cheerful. I dont mind either finger foods or something hot just need something thats not going to cost a fortune

I cant combine the 2 I have thought about it but my son has not had a party since he was 5 as i could never afford one so he has to have one of his own.

Chilli con carne and jacket potatoes (or new boiled if on offer) You can make this is bulk, little work, but lots of full tummy's!

Homemade pizzas? Pasta with tomato sauce, lots of garlic bread :)?

Baguettes sliced diagonally with egg mayo on and a small slice of pepper, looks very effective?

My cheapest party ever was "hot dogs"!

My lot still love the hot dogs (my oldest is 21).  Perhaps not for the one year old mind...  But then at one, they're not really too worried.

There's some great ideas thank you - I used to do catering when i left school but that was a few years ago (22 i think)

Ive just ordered some party decorations to hang in the consevatory roof which will look fab  all in blue to thehappy birthday ones can be used for both parties - my sister in law is an art teached so she going to make some decotations too.

Anna I did chilli for bon fire night my friends hub hated veggie food but my quorn mince chilli was the best thing he ever tasted - he didnt know it wasnt meat - she still makes it for him and he still does not know.

Going to shop for some bits this weekend and hot dogs going to be there too as i know a few lil ones who love them (and some big ones too)

Thanks Again

good luck happymamma, its not easy shopping on a budget is it, however I think the hotdogs is a great idea!

You don't know anyone with a Costco membership or similar warehouse card? I recently had a big party and shopping from there saved me quite a lot of money!

Buffet food is your best bet. Sandwiches, wraps, quiches, frittatas and so on! You can prepare them ahead of the party so less stress too. You can buy in sausage rolls and other nibbles like crisps and of course...cake!

Honestly, at a kids party the guests won't be expecting a grand three course meal - the above is perfectly acceptable.

I would say for a teenage party, you don't need to vary too far from a little one's birthday party food. Perhaps add in some more hot food like pizza, lasagne, hot pot, chilli - something you can make in bulk!

Hello!

I work for a tv production company. We are currently making a programme about frozen foods and are hoping to get single-mothers' insights on the subject.

I would love to speak to somebody who is planning to organise a massive event (ex. wedding) using exclusively frozen foods from one of the major shops (ex. Iceland)

I'd be really happy to hear about your experience!

Thanks a lot!
