Not sure if this is the right forum, but looks like most relevant.

I had a very turbulent time in my life and didn't bid for property for over 2 months. Finally I bid and got a response highlighted in red under each property, saying - YOU ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THIS PROPERTY BECAUSE YOU HAVE ALREADY MADE THE MAXIMUM APPLICATIONS ALLOWED. What does it mean? There is no explanation or links regarding this disclaimer.

I moved twice in this time and may move again: cannot forward the mail as not sure how long will stay here. Was not able to collect post from the address (private landlord) under which I registered for council housing. They may have written to me but I cannot get the letters; also not sure if giving them new address won't affect my application.

Has anyone got similar experience? Have I effectively removed myself from eligibility to council housing by: 1) not bidding for 2 months? 2) moving (albeit temporarily) outside the borough? Having applied for council housing, am I bound to stay at the same privately rented place/address for years to come until I get the offer?

Where do I start with the council? I'm just trying to get some advice before entering the 'bureaucratic meatgrinder' which I am very wary of and which I guess there is no escape from.

Hello vip088

I just wanted to say Hello and welcome you, I really do not know the answer to your question, sorry. I would recommend either contacting your local Citizen's Advice Bureau (click here to find your nearest one) or, preferably, get in touch with the Housing Authority and ask them to clarify their ruling.

Maybe others have had a similar experience?

That's so upsetting.

This area doesn't have the bidding system, so I'm afraid I have no idea how it works.

Just wanted to say hi though and hope you can find a solution to this.

Hi. We have a bidding system, but I was fortunate in that I didn't have to use it. I do remember though a magazine every month, and I think you could bid on 3 properties a month.

Welcome along to One Space by the way Smile

Hi Vip088,

First I would urge you to follow Louise's advice and contact your local Citizens Advice Bureau, perhaps you could also mention to them your former private landlord witholding your post which is completly un-ethical.

Bidding tends to be different from area to area but often the basics are very similar, have a look here for Bristol's FAQ section on the bidding system, it answers many of your questions.

It is a nightmareish system and (I fear) set to get worse when the proposed changes to housing benefit entitlement are changed nationwide.

I hope this is helpful.
