Brill thankyou, i am off with work related stress, plus i am being constantly called by work which is stressing me even more, i have been called every day this week so far. I do not want to return and would like to know if i am eligible for benefits if i leave my work until i find another job

If you have a sick certificate then work should not be calling you as the doctor will have said you are signed off. Please get a certificate if you do not have one. If the calls persist, you need to have a word with the supervisor/manager and explain that you do not want to be off work but the doctor has signed you off and you will be in touch as soon as you have some news and ask him/her to ensure that you are not phoned every day.

hi Lou i have a dr note which i have sent my manager, i have informed him and another manager who has called me to not call me as i do not want to be called, however they have since called. I do not want to return however. From what i know i do not think i can claim benefits as a single parent other than jsa which is 71 pounds. Per week

Hi gemgem777 have you contacted our benefits expert? i have heard that people that leave their job voluntarily have had sanctions applied to their JSA claim (reduced money for a time) i also think that this is dependent on your circumstances, you would do better checking this out with someone that has expertise in this area.

Hi gemgem777, that sounds great. You will be able to have some down time, spend some time with your child and take a breather. Would you consider going to your GP and seeing if there is any counselling available to you, to help you deal with your stress?

Was it work related stress or life related would you say?

How old is your child?

Hi Anna, yes work related stress, i have been stressed over work over a period of time and then was becoming very tearful at work and realised i needed time off. As well as working a stressful job ibwas also being managed by a manager who is poor at his job. As i have a mortgage i will need to speak to cab re what money i will be entitled to as i have always worked and never claimed benefits other than tax credit and child benefit sincmy son was born two yrs ago. Hi gemgem77, if you are feeling stressed because of work, then it is something that needs to be raised with your employers. Have you tried talking to your manager? Do you have a Human Resources Department?

You may be interested in looking at this article from the NHS on Beating Stress at Work.

I am suggesting that you try and tackle the problem, as there are so few jobs out there at the moment and as much as I love the thought of you being with your child every day, it can become lonely for a single parent and a massive upheaval to start at work again when your child turns 5.
