So I went for an interview today to go back to college to study beauty therapy. I passed the application with flying colours, was a very happy lady! Then my world crashed when i was told I am TOO OLD to be funded. I am 26!! The only thing I can get is a bursary if i am accepted. The total cost to me could be in the region of £3000, if I get a bursary I would have to pay it back? Any advice on finding funding as despte being a lone parent and on benefits I keep being told I am too old! xx

Any help is much much much appreciated I am not over the hill and I can do this!! xx

Hi hun, sorry they said you are too old that sounds ridiculous! I am not an expert on funding but I get a bursary and know that I dont have to pay that back, but I wasnt aware they do Bursaries for courses like beauty therapy?!

Your best bet would be to speak to the advisors at the college as they will know more about what you could be entitled to. Good luck hope it works out.

26 too old??!!! What a joke!!! (sorry that really got me!)

Its mad! I can apply for a bursary I have applied for 2 so far, all I want to do is prove to my kids that I can do something with my life but it feels like I am having multiple hurdles put in my way lol.  And yes it is a joke haha, almost like they penalise you for having kids first!

Thanks for luck! xx

Hello shortstuff66uk

This is something that a few of our members have come up against.

Depending on your area and also any connections anyone in your family have, you could look at applying for a small private grant....have a look at the Turn to Us website...no guarantees though.

Try this out - step by step questions about you and your situation - you end up with a list of potential funding sources.

Good luck!! x
