Representing single parents

by Chris Gaine last modified 2008-01-24 00:08

SPAN is bringing the issues that affect single parents to government and other forums.

Government working groups

SPAN has been representing members’ experiences of policy to government working groups including the National One Parent Family Forum and the Social Policy Task Force who regularly meet with the Department of Work and Pensions. SPAN has also organised participatory workshops on the National Action Plan for Social Inclusion.

Responding to government

SPAN has been responding to Government consultations, current Department of Work and Pensions proposals to increase conditionality on lone parents to find work, and other issues that matter to single parents and their families. You can download our responses from the SPAN resources section.

Women's Budget Group (WBG)

SPAN works with the Women's Budget Group linking child poverty with women's poverty and linking policy makers with women who have experience of poverty. The WBG is a network of gender equality experts in trade unions, academia and non-governmental organisations in the UK.

Partnership work

SPAN works in partnership with other organisations involved in anti-poverty work, including Oxfam and the England Platform of the UK Coalition Against Poverty.
