Integrating Children’s Perspectives in Policy-making to Combat Poverty and Social Exclusion experienced by Single Parent Families.

This transnational research project is investigating how children understand and experience their worlds as members of one parent families, to what extent they experience poverty and social exclusion, and how they cope with the challenges that confront them.

Working with partners in Cyprus, Greece and the UK, SPAN is determined to provide a voice for children in one parent families. The voices of children are rarely, if ever, included in the policy debate. Children’s Voices seeks to inform policy makers concerned with child poverty and social exclusion in cross-national settings. As part of this process, the project is identifying and evaluating the procedures and practices established in certain institutional contexts such as school, social services and community or health settings, and will make recommendations for changes where they are indicated as being necessary.

Disseminating the knowledge produced from the research will be vital to inform policy-making that impacts on one parent families. Partners will be sharing best practice transnationally, and the research publication will be available to policy makers and practitioners concerned with child poverty and social exclusion throughout the European Union.

The publication will be available shortly. For further information on the project, or to register your interest in receiving the publication, please get in touch by e-mailing info@spanuk.org.uk

The England research report was launched on 27 June 2007. You can download a copy from the resources section.
