Policy and research

Information about SPAN's ongoing policy work and research projects.

SPAN works in strategic anti-poverty partnerships at local, regional, national, and European levels with research bodies, policy decision-makers and non-governmental organisations. Our partnerships enable us to inform governments about the multiple needs of one parent families and how their policies can best support them. Involvement of single parents in all aspects and at every level of our policy-work ensures that participation is at the heart of what we do.

Current research

Combating poverty and social exclusion and campaigning for better life chances for lone parents and their children is key to our current original research. These research projects provide a rare voice for single parents and their children in policy debates.

Participatory One Parent Proofing
Participatory One Parent Proofing (POPP) is a one-of-a-kind three year participatory research project, that has worked closely with single parents across Britain to understand the challenges of parenting alone when trying to get into paid work, and staying in it.
