A description of the projects we are currently working on in the UK and Europe.
In partnership with the Race Equality Foundation and Cornwall Neighbourhoods for Change, SPAN runs this community based parenting programme in Bristol and Cornwall. Facilitators are trained to deliver the programme in their local area. The SFSC approach emphasises that parenting is affected by the local environment and that parents can play an active role in shaping this environment through community involvement.
POPP is an exciting three-year participatory research project that aims to open up new avenues for single parents to voice their experiences of policies and services, and find solutions that can meet their specific and complex needs.
Integrating Children’s Perspectives in Policy-making to Combat Poverty and Social Exclusion experienced by Single Parent Families.
This transnational research project is investigating how children understand and experience their worlds as members of one parent families, to what extent they experience poverty and social exclusion, and how they cope with the challenges that confront them.
This website, written by single parents for single parents in the UK, brings together essential information, links to other support organisations, news and resources and provides an online community for one parent families and groups. Single parents can get information on how to set up a support or social group and self help groups can find out how to develop and keep their group going. with information on funding, training and diversity. The message board offers a virtual support group, where people can gain advice and support from others who have been through similar experiences - a lifeline to many who unexpectedly find themselves to be single parents.
Set up as a model of good practice, the Study Centre offers courses, personal development, money advice, volunteering, childcare and other support services to one parent families in Bristol.
