The services we offer include:

Pre Tenancy Support Service

The Pre Tenancy Support Service offers support to young people aged 18-25 who have issues around housing.

The type of support offered includes:

· Advice if you are thinking of leaving home.

· Support if you find yourself homeless.

· Help in finding somewhere to live.

· Basic advice on housing rights.

· Access to our Floating Support Scheme if you are living on your own and would like help.

· Help with filling in forms and applying for benefits or grants.

· Help in accessing furniture for your home.

· Someone to talk to if you are having problems.

· Contacts to other services if you require them.

· Contacts with community groups and facilities.

Floating Support

The primary role of the Floating Support Scheme is to offer young people age 16 -25 support in their own tenancies or in the transitional period towards independent living.

The type of support offered includes:

· Advice on housing rights and responsibilities.

· Welfare rights advice.

· Help with applying for DSS grants and loans.

· Finding furniture for empty flat/house.

· Information on local facilities.

· Access to health care, leisure transport, support & activity groups.

· Help with budgeting, paying bills and debts

· Assistance with finding an occupation, paid or voluntary, or training

· Information on basic home security, maintenance and dealing with emergencies.

· Networking with specialist advice and support agencies to meet an individual’s needs.

· Advocacy e.g. having someone to do the talking for you on certain issues you feel you can’t deal with.

· Building self-confidence.

· Befriending & emotional support.

Derwentside Cree

Based at Wear Road Community House, Derwentside Cree is a group for men of all ages designed to reduce isolation, promote positive mental health and social inclusion through: Peer Support. Mentoring and Informal training.

Activities on offer include includes:

· Digital Photography

· Walking Trips

· Arts and Crafts

· Accredited Training

· Cookery

· Woodcrafts

· Board Games

· Wellbeing Courses

St Peters Court

St Peters Court is a complex of sixteen self-contained fully furnished apartments. The development is specifically designed for former armed services personnel. St Peters is situated within Sacriston a village three miles from Durham City which has good transport links to the city centre.

In addition to the living quarters there is also a training room and cmmunal common room. Externally there is a car park, tenants allotment and garden. SHAID can offer tenants support & advice on issues including; Training, Employment as well as provide housing support when a tenant decides to move on.
