Vegetarian food

You could be a vegetarian and just survive on cheese sandwiches but a healthy vegetarian diet would be rich in vegetables, nuts, seeds, grains, pulses, and soya and all the other veggie delights. For many people vegetarian food is about more than just replacing the meat item in traditional meat dishes - it’s part of a holistic approach to eating and health.

Think you’ve got a healthy diet? Here’s a checklist to make sure. Do you eat each day:

  • 3 or 4 servings of cereals/grains or potatoes
  • 4 or 5 servings of fruit and vegetables
  • 2 or 3 servings of pulses, nuts & seeds
  • 2 servings of milk, cheese, eggs or soya products
  • a small amount of vegetable oil and margarine or butter
  • yeast extract such as Marmite, fortified with vitamin B12

If you can answer yes to all the above, your diet is in tip top condition.
