Osteopathy & Chiropractics

Osteopaths and chiropractors use their hands to rebalance the framework of the body by manipulating the spine and joints, increasing joint mobility and stretching and relaxing muscles. Physiotherapists also use some of the same manipulation techniques.

Osteopathic theory states that spinal imbalance, or restriction of movement, can cause pain and discomfort as well as disrupting the functioning of the internal organs because bodily structure and function are linked. Osteopaths can rebalance the skeletal structure and increase range of movement, which in turn eases pain and improves organ function.

Chiropractic theory states that the spine and nervous system are linked. Chiropractors can correct spinal imbalance which in turn strengthens the nervous system and improves internal organ function.

The techniques used in osteopathy and chiropractic release muscle tension, reduce joint stiffness and improve circulation. Some benefits are also thought to be due to the therapeutic effect of touch.

What is it good for?
  • Joint and back problems particularly low back pain, neck stiffness and knee problems
  • Headaches and ear, nose and throat problems that are caused by restriction of the spine and muscle tension
  • General health problems such as digestive disorders, menstrual imbalance and urinary disturbance.
