Introduce Yourself

Posted by Nick at September 19. 2007

Hi my name is Nick, I live in Rugby, Warwickshire and have been a single Dad for 4 years. My son is 12 nearly 13 and currently in yr 8 at school. In our spare time we support Coventry City for our sins and go to as many games as we can afford.

Hi my  name is Tom,I live in harrogate,n.yorks my partner passed away suddenly 24.04.07.I have two daughters 5and 8.I am just coming out of of despair and am looking for positives(no sympathy please) so I'm new to computing (you may have guessed!) and a whole lot more.

Welcome Tom, I would have never have guessed you were new to computers (we all had to start somewhere). Its good to see you are looking for positives. Online forums are a great way of getting help, advice and support from people that are in the same or similar position to yourself. We are lucky to have a good little community on SPAN that although I have never met anyone in real life would consider my friends and there is always a listening ear (or sympathetic keyboard) around.

It is comforting to know "we are not alone".Problem;collect girls from school ,eldest has no one to play wiyh ,straightway she is inconsollable, offers of my playing with her only inflame more tears my own ego is bruised and at this point only the intercedence of the U.N. peace keepers seems likely to help! After tea and afriend arriving for her you wouldn't know so much upset had been flying around. Are boys as bad???????

I have been very lucky with my lad, he rarely has been a problem for me. He has had a few lapses at school but quickly gets it sorted out. He has always been quite solitary. Don't get me wrong he does have friends but rarely goes out or has any round although he is having a friend round tomorrow as they finish school early.

Re: Introduce Yourself

Posted by Clair Silk at October 02. 2007

hi all,

My name is Clair and i have a ten year old girl, who sounds like one of tom's daughters.  My daughter is also under the immpression that the world is going to end on a daily basis if something or other is not going right for her.  I would not say that i have spoiled her as i do not and never had the cash to do so, and think that hormones are kicking in.  She never used to be like this, its the onslaught of teenager syndrome i fear!

She seems to have reverted back to when she was three, tantrums and screaming, you know what i mean?

But actually over the past couple of weeks this seems to have settled, but it could be the eye in the storm.

Dont forget, as much as you would not like to say that your child/children get influenced easily, peer presure works its way in.  Then their is another worry, suppose you dont like your daughters friends?  I have had this and the only advice i can give is to keep a close eye, a nose to the ground and be ready, waiting for when your child/children need you to listen, hug or wipe away the tears.  Then of course if serious trouble looms thats a whole other kettle of fish!

Signing off, from ranting

Hello, my name is zoe and this is the first time I have joined anything online. I have read lots of the posts but due to embarassingly poor IT skills,I have only just worked out how to write one myself!! After 14 happy years together my husband very suddenly and  unexpectedly left me and our 3 year old son as he did not know what he wanted anymore. That was 6 months ago and I am only just coming out of shock and facing up to the fact that I am now on my own.  I  would really welcome any advice/suggestions etc from others as its very scary and very sad. Thankyou for reading my ramblings!

Hi i am a single mum of 2 children ages 12 and 7.  Single after 17 year marriage, that unfortunately ended, after trying really hard to keep it together.

The time has gone really fast and it is hard work, but the relief of all the stress we endured trying to keep the family together has lifted..

The financial hardship is the most obvious struggle, but taking into concideration of a happy relaxed home, out weighs the materialistic gains.

Looking forward to this new board and chatting with new members , for support and to support .

(to old members..last post T) :}

Hi

My name is Pam, I was a member on the old site but didnt get on very often.  When I got the email telling me you were all moving, I felt the urge to tag along.. so here I am.

I am a 40yr old mum in Edinburgh and have a little girl of 4yrs.  My husband walked out on us when she was 4 months old and we have been plodding along quite happily since !  Sounds weird, saying happily but quite frankly that is how it has been.  Yes, it hurt terribly at the time but then I realised he had lost a heck of a lot more than I had and that was a great comfort to me and certainly a key turning point in my emotional state (a little note for Zoe there!).  Just be strong and keep looking to the future !

So hello again to all the old forum members and hello to all the new folk who have joined.

cheers

Pam

hello im new here.

I was given the details of this website by my local single parent organisation SCOOP Aid, in Sheffield.

My name is suzanne, i am 24 years old and i've been a single parent for two years to my 5 year old little terror of a boy. I must say it's not been easy but im sure u can all relate to that :)

I've been spending the morning having a look round the site and find it very helpful and informative.

Hi Pam and Suzanne

I too have come over from the old forum.

Looking forward to this new board being as supportive as the old one.

I have been a single mum just over 3 years and yes it is hard, but this board has been so reasuring in giving me the boost that i am not a hopeless mum, and it is a struggle being a single parent and it isn't just me!!

Looking forward to this forum really taking off:).

J how could you? Poor Tortie will be devestated. Bring back last post I say so I can win this time.

Anywaya big welcome for all the newbies and old hands. I'm Sarah, a member of the old forum and technically not a single parent anymore. However, getting out of the mindset after 6 years of it is hard.

I hope this new board turns out as well as the old ones

Hi Sam  aka Shush..

Glad you made it, things sound good  with you, with the mystery news, good for you.

This new forum is the only news, up to now, but we could do with lots more members to get the community feel of the old forum.

As it is still relatively new , a bit quiet, but hoping to post more to get more interaction.

take care Porschea xx :)
