6.2 – Dealing with children’s behaviour

For this activity we’re going to look at seven scenes and identify which techniques can be used to improve behaviour for each of them.

In your worksheet write which behaviour you would choose from the following:

One-to-one time, Behave well yourself, Positive attention and praise, Ignore when you can, Be clear, Negotiation, Star charts and contracts, Avoiding arguments

1. Josie is two and is clearly looking for your attention. Which technique would you use?

2. Ibrahim is four and you have noticed he copies you when you shout at his older brother and joins in the shouting. Which technique would you use?

3. Moses is six and has done his homework and fed the dog. Which technique would you use?

4. Chantelle is eight and is banging her recorder on the coffee table. Which technique would you use?

5. Malik is 10 and hasn’t emptied his PE bag but wants to watch TV. Which technique would you use?

6. Bertie is 11 and hasn’t been giving the hamster clean water every day. Which technique would you use?

7. Natalia is 14 and is stropping about coming in at 8 pm. Which technique would you use?
